Ticks are external parasites which live off the blood of mammals and have become an increasing problem for dogs and cats and their owners particularly during the summer months, as has been reported in various Pet Magazines and the National Press.

Ticks vary in size from a pin head to a finger nail, depending on age and how recently they have sucked blood and become engorged.  They are oval in shape, pale cream or dark grey or brown and look like a small rounded pebble.

Ticks are carriers of various diseases which can be transmitted, not only to pets but also their owners and can cause irritation, fever, lethargy, lameness and paralysis, also more serious problems such as Lyme Disease, with recent cases involving some high profile celebrities.

Ticks can be very difficult to remove safely and are especially troublesome to dog and cat owners living near, or exercising their pets in the countryside or parks, particularly tick infested areas such as woodlands and moorlands throughout the UK.

Johnson’s Tick Remover is suitable for use with dogs, cats, horses and other animals and has been specially designed and manufactured in the UK.  The easy to clean plastic remover has 2 sizes of hooked twisters, one at each end, the appropriate size of hook to be used depending on the size of tick.  The hook is inserted under the tick from the side and 2 or 3 rotations of the twister removes the tick quickly easily and completely, so that no part of the tick is left under the pets skin which can cause infection.  After removal of ticks, it is advisable to wipe the skin of the affected areas with an antiseptic product and wash the twister.

It is important to remove ticks as soon as possible.  Check daily for infestation after exercise in long grass, wooded or moorland areas, and then remove any ticks which may have attached themselves, which is easily done with a Johnson’s Tick Remover.

To illustrate how easy it is to remove ticks safely and successfully with a Johnson’s Tick Remover, shown below is a large engorged tick which was easily removed from a cat owned by one of Johnson’s Area Sales Managers.  He was horrified to find a large tick firmly attached to his special pet, but the tick was completely removed by two or three twists of the remover, without leaving any part of the tick still attached to the cat.  Complete success reported by a satisfied user!
